new exhaust question

PostAuthor: ff/medic » Sun Jul 30, 2006 10:21 pm

Hey Notec, I have a question for you. I just put on a set of Jardine Slash Cut exhaust on my XV920 last Wedsnesday. Tonight I was wiping down the bike and I notices on the exhaust for the rear cyclinder a crusty, ruff surface on the chrome where it bends to go to the muffler. Is this the way bluing (Spelling?) starts or is it getting to hot from the exhaust under it?

Is this on the resonator pipe(cross over)......if you could post pictures It will make it easier to see what the issue is. Remember this part of the exhaust gets all the crap from the road hitting it......so it will lose its chrome plating quicker than any other part.

make sure your battery vent is not anywhere near it. it spewes acid fumes that eats chrome.
Is it break time yet?

I'll bet its the acid. blueing, just starts turning a golden color then eventually blue, but it normally doesnt flake the chrome off. Or could be the start of rust.

Looking at it today and using chrome polish I bet it may be scrapes from the garage floor when I installed it. I checked both pipes from the engine outward and saw no discoloration. So hopefully this was a false alarm. I will still continue to watch this.
