Brake bleeding (SOLVED)Having a nightmare bleeding front brake.
All fluid cleaned out. New fluid in. Tried pumping and relesing air from bleed screw at the same time then closing before releasing brake lever. Tried reverse bleeding with home made pump, no joy. Does anyone have any other methods to help. Cheers in advance

The uniqueness of the bike's braking system..ie: being vertical from caliper to reservoir, bleeding air bubbles fairly easy by just leaving the reservoir cap off and working the lever will force the air to the top (without opening bleeder). Letting the lever snap back after a pull, works too. Kinda like tapping the brake hose. You're putting a shock thru the system. Causing the bubbles to rise. Just don't pull the lever too hard, you get a good stream of fluid shoot'n up and out. Bottom line..you don't have to open the bleeder valve, unless you're using the self (reverse) bleed system.

I started and suggested starting the bike and let the vibration help work the bubbles up. I tried it and had success. So Start the beast, let the vibration and the natural inclination of the bubbles to rise help you along. Good luck !
Re: Brake bleedingGet a vacuum pump to suck on the bleeder nipple. As you're in CZ, you can get these as P*nis-pumps in adult shops.
![]() The other thing I like to do is to bleed them until they actually move the brake piston and then take it off and use a c-clamp to push the piston back in, this usually takes most of the air up into the reservoir. For the last bit, pump up the brake and then fix the lever to the bars with a zip-tie. After a few hours, cut through the zip-tie and then just feather the lever 2-3 times. Usually that sorts it out. Sorry for late reply flyingdog, but no joy with any method here. I am thinking that maybe i have a broken reservoir pump, it doesnt seem to get fluid down correctly, hence not allowing me to move fluid correctly from reservoir to bleed nipple. Any other suggestions would be great, maybe take off caliper and test for movement on the piston side of things. Thanks for your help guys ![]()

We got a new development on the nightmare brake front. Had suspicions the piston wasnt pumping, that stripped and checked is working fine. Next took off caliper to check for seizure, managed to convince it to move outwards, all be it very steadily. Could not convince it to leave its comfortable home however but at least worked out that it moves. Now cannot convince it to go back. Anybody got any tricks on getting it to return. Single caliper just now As spoke, look one day to change forks to twin but budget just now dont allow that mod. Thanks for the offer also maybe looking more for a caliper as i cant get this one back in. On a rubber hose also just now, 1 mtr ish give or take. Defo would prefer braided, in budget that one. Yrs ago I came across some info that some xs650s (78-early 80s I think) had forks with dual discs that would fit the earlier xv750. Never got around to checking this one out. Was going to convert the wifes bike to dual brakes. But the idea faded away.

Nanno mentioned something about two different types of forks fitting the early xv750. Hopefully be meeting with him in the very near future will be discussing other opportunities also. Cheers for that one, maybe get brake bled up now i got piston free finall, concentrate then on getting electrics done and starting finally, just building a rear sub-frame at the minute though. Re: Brake bleedingI've gone through my stash and I have a complete TR1 frontend (37mm) and a complete twin-brake-setup with braided brakelines for you. With the parts pile growing at this rate, you either bring a trailer or a proper lorry, when you come round depending on the date.
