Idles Fine, stalls when I apply throttle. (SOLVED)Idles Fine, stalls when I apply throttle. (SOLVED)I just got my bike a little bit ago. It sat for 16 years and I have been restoring it. It starts fine and idles at the appropriate rpm. I rebuilt the carbs and replaced all the hoses. However, if I try to give it throttle, it stalls. The worst part is that this is not a consistent problem. It may work one day, and then not work another. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
It would be of great assistance if you would fill in your signature w/ the make - model of your bike - http://viragotechforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=20037

Re: Idles Fine, stalls when I apply throttle.I have the same (if not very similar) problem. My brother bought a 1983 920 midnight virago. We have got the bike to pristine condition, it's really good looking! However, just as OP said, I can start it with the choke closed, and it idles beautifully, but open the choke or give it any throttle at all and it kills. I have removed and inspected the carbs, they were astonishingly clean for a bike that sat for 6 years. I'm stumped, any ideas?
Is there a diagram or picture on where to find these filters? I had the carbs all the way off and dissassebled and didn't see anything resembling a filter or a screen. Are the filters in the tank associated with the petcock?

Re: Idles Fine, stalls when I apply throttle.anyone else? I cant find any filters in the carbs, and the problem is unresolved.
the tank filters are attached to the petcock[s]...did you remove the needle seats and look behind them?...t is not unusual for the diaphragm air filters to clog the needle seat screens with trash
all filters are 100% clean, suprisingly in fact. is there anything else i should check before putting the carbs back on? now i did notice that the mixture screws were WAY out... almost 4 or 5 turns. I put them back to 2 1/4 turns. could that affect it in any way?
also, could this be a synch issue? 1983 virago 920 midnight edition - current project

its a full miss on the front cylinder, spark is present. i left it idle for 5 minutes and accidentally touched the front exhaust pipe... but it was cold.

Re: Idles Fine, stalls when I apply throttle.ive actually never seen it before, but the spark plug is broken internally, with no fouling. im going to pick up a new one tomorrow and hopefully that will fix it
I actually figured it out. After checking the filters and everything I realized it had to be the mixture screws. After adjusting them and making sure the pressure was good and both pipes were warm I adjusted the throttle screw. Put some new gas in it, and made sure the throttle cable didn't have too much slack. Everything works amazing now!
