help with parts needed

PostAuthor: devonoffroad » Tue Aug 14, 2018 3:13 pm

Hi Folks
So I've just got my hands on a 1987 700cc Virago which is nearly complete, apart from getting a new battery, oil and filter most parts as far as I can tell are there but I have worked out I also need a Battery box door and I think I need some sort of mounting plate/bracket for the CDi/ignitor unit , when I got the bike the CDI unit was bolted to the battery box so the nut fouled the battery, there is what looks like a mounting hole on the battery box mounting bracket (lower left) so I'm guessing there should be about bracket, Cant see anything in the workshop manual or on a internet search

Howdy!

Welcome to VTF.

I had an '86-1100, and as I recall the TCI is attached to the plastic fender extension [#21} just aft of the battery ---> https://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/yam ... v700ct-ctc

I don't remember about the battery "door" :huh?: :con: ---> https://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/yam ... v700ct-ctc

looks to me like a PO moved the reg/rec to the TCI posit.[??]
r/r usually behind left 'buddy-peg' - it needs good cooling-air-flow

edit --- hmmm interesting ... battery box is listed as "Box, Tool" [p/n 42X-21171-00-00] :con:

If you need the battery cover see viewtopic.php?f=16&t=60267 . He’s parting out a ‘95, the parts you need will fit your bike as well.

The battery door is part number 18 - "lid"(on the first link).
And as mentioned above the correct place to mount the TCI is on the plastic extension to the rear fender.

yeah, no, I mean seems I recall all-mine had was a rubber "tie-down" strap, no door. :ider:

it was a basket-case 'franken-bike' so B/box could have come from anywhere.

Many thanks for all the replies, plenty of useful info , looks like I'm missing the tool box on the side of the battery box and there is the Reg/Rec unit on the mudguard extension so recon I'll fabricate up a bracket to hold the igniter unit and bolt it into the space on the left hand side
:thanks:

The door is separate Mark, the rubber strap threads through it to hold it in place (on the 1100).
