Carbs on the 87 XV700

PostAuthor: comeonguys » Tue Dec 18, 2018 10:34 pm

What carbs came on the 87 Virago XV700. This one was made for the North American market and sold in New Jersey. From what I have read here they came with Hitachi and they can be hard to tune. I tried looking them up on Partszilla but they don't show a manufacturer. I guess because they are no longer available. I'm new here and have a non running 700 in my sites. Thanks Tom

The 700 came with what I'd call the "goto" carb on these Viragos. HSC-40mm Hitachi. Were use on most of the Viragos. Like the.. 700/750/1000s to name a few. Yamaha also Mikuni in their 1100s and lotta their earlier 535s, among others. Personally, never found the Hitachi least bit hard to work on. Some rumors just like hang'n around. Bout anything ya need, from jets to needles to diaphragms/slides can be gotton in the aftermarket world.
Google this name in yer browser or this sites search or search: viragotech .com and get comfortable. Lotta info out there. Carbs for what years.etc.....

I think the 87 700 came with the Gen lll HSC40 Hitachi's . Like FD said, I have never found the Hitachi difficult to work on or tune. But the must be clean. Particularly the passage from the pilot jet to the venturi port in front of the butterfly. This provides the fuel for idle, starting without using choke and R's up to about 2500. The amount of fuel is regulated by the pilot screw adjustment. What sort of problems are you having???
