Fuel route from tank to carbs???

PostAuthor: MrVieux » Tue Aug 18, 2020 5:10 am

Hi -
1998 -535 DX
Struggling to understand route of petrol as it journeys to the carbs - from top tank petrol cap
(Have top tank and lower tank) -
- I can see fuel feed off top of lower tank down to filter then on to pump on the bike - As the schematics show - but --- fuel through Petcock filter/ tap on/off- at bottom of lower tank seems true supply ---- to carbs ??? -

quick drawing or explanation of fuel route would be helpful -
Thanks

Found the carbs are fed by petcock - so good makes sense - but assume pump must feed back to lower tank -? does this mean the lower tank is split level - ? fresh fuel comes from top tank and feeds to lower tank then out to filter and pump- then back into lower tank? -??

Yes - I've seem that schematic and others - but on the diagram there is no indication of where the exit pipe from the pump goes - it ends on the diagram - no indication of where it leads - same situation on rest of the pipes shown -

Hi bud, fuel goes into top tank then drains to lower tank through the pipe (right hand as viewed from above) the other large pipe is a vent pipe for the lower tank that equalises fuel with level in top tank. The fuel is sucked from the lower tank via the petcock by the pump, it is then pushed by the pump into the carbs, the pump stops when the float chamber is full then starts as more fuel is needed. Reserve is taken care of by the the switch on the righthand handlebar o[erating the solonoid on the rear of the petcock opening the shorter in tank pickup tube on the petcock.

Just make sure the electric petcock works as they have a habit if sticking in one position. I found out the hard way and swapped it out for a manual one.
