XV535 gear shift problem. (SOLVED)

PostAuthor: jcrosbie » Fri Oct 25, 2019 2:52 am

Hello I noticed recently on my XV535 that when I shift up from fourth to fifth gear that fifth gear does not engage, but if I shift up again immediately on the gear lever fifth gear will engage. Today this problem occurred when shifting from third to forth gear also. The problem was intermittent but now is more regular. There is no problem when shifting down the gears. Have any of you had this problem before?
Thank you.

Likely dry or dirty shift linkage pivots.

The first thing to do is pry open the rubber boots covering the pivots, and flush them out with penetrating oil in a spray can.

Jake – thank you for your help. The shift linkage pivots were clean, I lubricated them anyway. I also lubricated the clutch cable. On the clutch push lever assembly/spring area – I got a lot of brown discoloration after I lubricated this area. I’ve been out on the bike twice since and the gears are engaging without any problem.
