Spark plug connectors resistance?

PostAuthor: Ronn » Mon Jun 10, 2019 11:24 pm

Spark plug connectors resistance?
What should it measure. I was told they should be 5k ohms but both my Viragos (250 2003, and 535 1995) measure 9K+ ohms. Yamaha wants $100 CDN for the pair!!!
Thanks'

Can’t speak for what the ohms should be for your bike but I replaced the ones on my 1000 with these:

https://www.amazon.ca/NGK-XD05FP-Resistor-Spark-Plug/dp/B0018JZ9DK/ref=asc_df_B0018JZ9DK/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=293038560409&hvpos=1o5&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2424382755491391588&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1001970&hvtargid=pla-761835508472&psc=1

(Sorry if that link ended up haggard, posting from my phone through Tapatalk)

Much cheaper than your OEM quote!

I don’t have an xv250, but on most of the Viragos, the resistor can be removed from the cap and replaced with a nail or piece of brass or copper. In my case, the bike even starts faster.

Read how, it’s easy http://faq.f650.com/FAQs/PlugCapsnCoils.htm

Another good read on resistors http://www.ultralightnews.com/enginetro ... dplugs.htm . The takeaway I get is the spark is longer, but weaker with a resistor.

:yup:
This is what your bike calls for if it's just the caps ya need:

What's the number on your cap? If you could cross-reference that Yamaha number to an NGK number..BikeBandit (or lotta places) should be waay under $10. Think I paid $7ea. for the last batch. Unless they're really special. :;:

As an aside: Jake, you're right bout them... now....non-rebuildable. Even called J&P cycles for giggles (needed a part anyway) Sux!
