535 carb clean- I'm REALLY close to getting this right

PostAuthor: MDViragos » Mon Aug 07, 2017 9:04 am

I've cleaned and reassembled the carbs after the bike sat for a while. Fresh fuel and sea foam. The bike will only start with the assistance of starter fluid. Runs ok after that but after twisting the throttle it doesn't immediately slow down. It takes about a minute to slow to idle. No smoke or backfire. While idling the engine speed will slowly speed up.

Let it run for a while with the sea foam? Did I miss something?

Thanks folks.

Check for vacuum leaks....... Mixture too lean for the engine to start.

bstig60 you were right. Air leak around the carb boots. Thank you for your reply! I used a propane torch to find the leak. When I did I remembered that I didn't tighten the barrel bands around the carb when I re-installed it.

I greatly appreciate your help. It's working well - for now :D
