I've been having a bit of a hiccup when rolling on the throttle passing on the highway; it's progressed to being an annoyance around town as well. So I suspected holes in the diaphragm(s) and figured it was time for a carb clean out anyway. So removed the carbs and started to tear them down. Front cylinder OK, no tears or holes, but after pulling it out, and removing the floats and all the jets, I noticed these "vandal-proof" torx type screw heads holding the slide supports in place. Well being the inquisitive type and just happened to have the required vandal proof bit available, I proceeded to remove the screws. Very tight with some kind of thread lock- obviously didn't want anyone tampering with them.

Well, one came out, the other snapped off...followed by careful drilling, filling with epoxy and re-threading (and did I mention some unprintable expletives along the way.) But in the end it worked out OK, everything is back together and working nice and smooth. By the way, if you're curious (and I'd advise against trying to remove said vandal-proof screws), this is what you find for your efforts

Just thought this might save someone some time. And yes, there were two small tears in the diaphragm for the rear carb. So I've put a thin coat of RTV on them, hopefully to get me by until I get new ones. The front carb diaphragms don't look too good either. For interest sake, the bike has 86,000 Km (about 50,000 miles) on it.
