Re: Oil filter relocationi looked at an oil cooler for mine when i first got mine
but then i just figured if they needed one yamaha would've fitted it, i mean they were in production long enough to find out the 1400 intruder has an oil cooler for the rear cyl only. perhaps yam got around the need for that by offsetting the jugs "cry HAVOC! and let slip the spanners of war"
Re: Oil filter relocationYes that is part of the reson for the offset jugs, the other part is that the crank rods can both be the same, ie: harleys rods are different one rides inside the other and the second rides on the outside of the first ala forked rod.
The differance in the carb main needles and jets compensates for this extra heat load on the rear cly. Which leaves me wondering how the rear cly handles the single carb setup. Is one cly rich and cool, and the other lean and hot? ![]()
Re: Oil filter relocationyeah i often wonder abt the single carb meself
"cry HAVOC! and let slip the spanners of war"
Re: Oil filter relocationmy KJS - both cylinders right where they need be, no extra hot rear cylinder.
course it is hard to tell when it's 107 F outside already. re. oil coolers: there have been oil coolers added, even used to be an after market production item to add oil cooler. viewtopic.php?f=34&t=259&p=37129&hilit=oil+cooler#p37129 http://www.lockhartphillipsusa.com/ viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6070&p=45196&hilit=oil+cooler#p45196 you must read these: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7050&p=53365&hilit=oil+cooler#p53365 viewtopic.php?f=75&t=8834&p=70964&hilit=oil+cooler#p70964 there's 16 more pages, but a little will bring them up for you. Re: Oil filter relocationYES!!! IJUST INSTALLED ONE ON MY VIRAGO. YOU HAVE TO MODIFY THE OIL FILTER COVER A LITTLE TO CLEAR A HANGING PEACE OF THE CASE COVER AND MAKE A MOUNTING PIONT FOR THE FILTER. I MOUNTED MINE TO THE RIGHTSIDE CRASH BAR WITH THE HOSES ROUTED UNDER THE BAR.

Re: Oil filter relocation (SOLVED)I just bought this engine and oil cooler (separately) off e-bay.
I downloaded these from the auction page and will take closer shots if anyone is interested...and can tell me how to post pix. $100 for the engine, $8 fro the cooler and lines (saved $300 shipping by driving up to get them) ![]()
Re: Oil filter relocationCan you be more specific on the cover modification? Also, In your opinion, would there be any reason this wouldn't work on my '85 XV700?
Tikker - '85 XV700
Re: Oil filter relocation (SOLVED)Hey Tikker, Sorry been off-line. From the pictures i have seen of a 750 virago it looks the same as my 1100. There is a small piece of the main side cover that blocks the cover from sitting flush. All you have to do is use a small grinder or drimel tool to create a resess in the back of the new cover to fit over this piece. The new cover a solid piece of aluminum just take your time and small cuts.
Good Luck! DHDORTOH (Darren) ![]()
