Wires different than on the diagram...

PostAuthor: Cykomiko » Tue Nov 20, 2018 3:29 pm

Hi all again ,

Right, electricals.... I've got several questions. I basically know nothing about electrics. But I'm keen to learn!
I am in the process of rewiring in order to put boxes, relays and all he stuff in different places (Basically under the tank).
1. I have the wiring diagram of the XV500K, but there seem to be small differences with the XV500 Special (mine): The bundle coming out of the regulator, shows 3 wires on the diagram (Black, red, Brown), but there is a 4th, yellow wire on mine. Can't tell where it goes, as I don't have the bike next to me. Does anybody have this on his bike?
2. I did (yes, shame on me) remove some copper connectors from their plastic housing so I could untangle some wires in order to reroute more easily. I usually take pictures before, but didn't for the diode, and can't put them back in the right position, as the colors on the diagram do not match what I've got. And unless I did not look properly (and I'm pretty sure I did), the diagram is different. Could someone send a picture of the connector?
3. Is it really bad to make connections? I know I should replace wires with longer ones, but it is simply to hard for me in some places (i.e lengthening the bundle coming from the pick up coils to the igniter)
4. Should I not bother trying to figure out the original wiring and simplify it ?

My bike is at a friend's (as I don't have a garage), thus i can't check everything now, but I'll do my best to answer you.

Thanks again,

Mika

oy vey.

two complicated subjects - xv500 & electricals ...

the 500 is less common in the USA because it was available only a couple of years here, and electrical stuff is complicated by itself.

Bonne chance.
