How do you remove the seat on the 500?

Not familiar with the 500, but from the pic ( http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/ ... virago.htm ) looks the same as 750s, only with the key operation on the left side of seat, instead of the right. Next to helmet lock. Turning the key will operate two latches. One on the key side and opposite side of seat, via a rod running across the seat. Sometimes ya have to fiddle with the lever latching mechanism on the right side of seat. But should just lift off from the front of seat and a slightly forward movement. As there's a lip thingie to hold down the rear. Just a best guess. Could be waaay off, though on that particular model.

Rear of the seat has a lock. Use the key to unlock and pull up by the back. The front is hinged under the tank.

What year(s) is that? I thought the 500 was introduce in 83' (only). After the 920 and before the 1000 (84-85). I see parts fiche show lock on the back. Looks like some info was skewered.
