Cracklin' Rosie

Chop it, rake it, slam it, build it for show.
New parts, old parts, built from scrap. [Hammered out of bare stock & welded with sweat.]

Cracklin' Rosie

PostAuthor: Ita » Sat Oct 12, 2019 6:24 pm

OK... I'm starting my own thread to document my Journey. Thanks to all who have come before me, I have read a lot of the previous posts here and taken information and experiences onboard.

Firstly about me. I'm 62 years old, still working and living mostly in Melbourne Australia. I hope to retire soon and move to the Mid North Coast of NSW, where I have a house and workshop waiting for me to commence my retirement project. I've owned motorcycles all my life and Road Raced at Club and State level. I've always had a Café Racer or track bike plan as a retirement project but in my mind it was always going to be a XS650.

Anyway about 6 months ago I was offered a 1996 XV750 at a very reasonable price and after a little research I realised it could be the basis of something very interesting and challenging. I'm hoping to build something that resembles an early GP racer in the style of a TZ or even a Manx Racer from the 1960s! But the final style will surely evolve as the process continues...

Just learning how to post images :o:

So this is the bike the night it arrived about six months ago. I'm keeping my eyes open for parts to suit my build, and stripping unwanted parts from the bike every time I get a chance to get up north...

Well that's about it for now until I'm back up north in about 3 weeks. That's when I'll see how the tank sits on the bike and keep struggling to remove the lower steering head bearing shell which is being rather difficult...

Following...

Did you also get the stem nut for the R1 that CM also makes? It makes for a beautiful finish on top of the upper TT clamp.

I had to google the cracklin rosie. Pretty cool. Before I looked up the meaning (wine) I was thinking it might of been a reference to a very hot lady/bike, as she crackles and pings after a long ride...! Hey now...!!!

There's only "One" Cracklin' Rosie that I've ever heard of and it taint no wine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhumCu3fzMI Just like there will only be "One" Clint Eastwood, Telly Salvalas, Humphrey Bogart, Johnny Carson, Mini Pearl or Roy Clark... :bg:

No I didn't as I didn't know it existed, but it is now firmly on the shopping list, if the postage isn't over the top! The Aussie $$$ is low at the moment.

Hey mate... I was not aware of the wine reference, however I like wine a lot! I have always given my bikes (and cars) names. As this one is going to be a Café Racer (=CR) and I've always been a Neil Diamond fan I came up with Cracklin' Rosie (=CR) My mind works in very odd ways at times LOL I think she will be just Rosie for short...

Niel Diamond visit some island somewhere, lots of guys and few ladies, the song he based off the natives slang fordrinking wine instead of copulation. The guys did allot of sitting around drinking and playing guitar. (Store bought woman).

Thanks Arjay... This forum is chockablock with info and I love learning new stuff, especially about a song I’ve loved since the 70’s :bg: :cl: :GJ:
