Xv750 cafe from Ireland

PostAuthor: Quincey » Mon Oct 12, 2020 4:55 pm

Hi All
Well I purchased my 83 xv back in 2014 with plans to build a Greg Hageman replica.
Started to collect the pieces needed, not easy as almost everything has to come from the USA as these bikes were not officially imported into Ireland by Yamaha.
Thanks to Artie who gave me advice on building the spoke wheels for the conversation.
So with all the Covid restrictions and time on my hands I have decided to get stuck into the build.

Good luck with the build! I foresee many long hours of work ahead of you. :bg:

Whatever you end you doing, have fun and make it yours.

Following Arties thread on building the spoke wheels my first attempt on the lathe did not go to plan for the rear hub
However I found a second 535 rear hub and it worked out perfectly. I used Hagon flanged rims and stainless spokes. Also a new EBC rotor.

Got an NOS benelli tank probably should have left it original and a Greg Hageman subframe both back in the day.
Now they are painted the colour I wanted.

Nice choice on the orange paint and the spoked wheels. Looks sharp.

Pushing on with the rebuild
Painted the front engine bracket orange not sure it suits so might repaint it black later. Won’t be using the plastic covers either
Front brake caliper was sprayed gold when I got the bike so now I am rebuilding it and repainting it correct black with the top ridges polished

Rebuilt brake caliper and put the forks and wheels on the bike
Unhappy with the clipons above the top yoke so dropped the forks again and at the same time sprayed the front engine bracket black. Looks better. Same time fitted the new vm34’s on xv920 air intake rubbers.
Next job is the big part I am going to do a full rewire using an m unit and original switches to keep the old look.
I have the new r/r from Ricks and the fused starter solenoid from Revival Cycles.
Just waiting on the big parcel of electrickery.
