I've got to leave it stock for now, since it's a bike from before 2000, way before in this case !

So before 2000 there wasn't a European certification and every country in Europe had a national certification, this means I've got to go to the Belgian importer and show my bike full stock ( otherwise it won't pass ! ) and obtain my Belgian certification... than I can start F'in it up ! :bg:

Got an appointment in 2 weeks, this means I can't ride it and got to keep my wrenches far away :ops:

In the mean time I can prepare the front mods, Still got a XJ900 that I started modifying but stopped my mods 4 or 5 years ago it sits like this now:

Image

The plan is, swap the whole front end, so this means I'l be going from a 19" to a 18" wheel and from single to dual disks.

The XJ900 tubes are 37mm and the XV 36mm, so I'll ( well somebody, I'm not equipped for this ) take 1mm from the stock XV triple tree and that will be that...

Other gain from this swap is that the Xj fork is 6cm / 2.5" shorter than the XV fork, should give the right stance, or not to far from it, I'll drop it more if needed...

Also going to swap the rear wheel, should be plug and play, we'll see about that, it's rarely that simple...

This means I'll be going from 16" to 18" and from drum brake to disk brake... I'm doing this for the looks not the brakes, I rarely use the rear brake ( brakes are for cowards anyway... :;: )

To be followed...

Didn't do much last days, cleaned my front wheel and painted it using the old playing cards trick

The tank is a good pick up. Old school tanks like that are hard to find in Oz. Especially with cap, key and petcock...

This one doesn't have the petcock, but that's not a problem, the fuel cap on the other hand is a real find.

I've checked on a KZ/Z650 forum, 'cause I've found a KZ400 and didn't know if it was the same as the KZ650 ( it isn't ) a guy there paid twice what I've paid for the whole thing just for the fuel cap !

The funny thing is that I'm not going to use any of that, the tank wil serve as a master, I'll make a carbon fiber copy out of it, and if I'm good at it ( never tried ! but watched a ton of youtube videos :r: ) I'll make some others to fund my build...

I'm using a Z1000j tank on mine, I got a new (replica) cap and key on ebay for not much $$$ but the petcock is impossible to find!!! The tank needs some repairs so I'll by a generic tap and have the tank modified to fit it when the repairs happen...

Maybe I'll have to go with 2 aftermarket petcocks anyway since the OEM tank has 2 ?!

Still have to check that one out...

I didn't do much yet because the bike still has to past a control in order to be imported ( bought the bike in the Nederlands ) and it has to be 100% stock for it to pass...

I saw a couple of cafes with full wheels so I made my own, don't know if I going to use them, I will see once finished if it goes with the style or not, but there it is...

Stil have to glue it together and paint it the same color as the wheels...

Innovative to say the least!! Not my cup of tea, but I also don’t like the spoke pattern on those wheels either... A rock and a hard place I guess... Keep up the good work, it’s great to watch and learn!

Thanks.

I still don't know if I'm going to install that, but like you've said, those spokes really don't speak to me either, and that' a cheap and 100% personal way to go...

I really like those wheels but don't think they'll fit the build, think I'll try just for the fun of it:

I like it, think that if I go with covers it will be those rather then my first attempt, I'll go for a more discret semi-gloss for the flat surfaces and gloss for the rest...

First time I've seen 3D Printing combined with a Virago! What material did you use? If PLA I'd be worried about the inserts warping.

While I don't think it looks fantastic - it is in improvement. Bet paint will help.
