XV920 caferacer

Chop it, rake it, slam it, build it for show.
New parts, old parts, built from scrap. [Hammered out of bare stock & welded with sweat.]

We need an update! This is a cool project and I'm diggin that tank. I've been looking high and low for a tank that will look right and fit without any crazy mods.

thanks! so it has been a while, but as usual I've been putting work into the bike!

i started with getting the engine back together, by starting with cleaning the engine inside,
it had some brown tarnish inside, i be leave it to be from the oil that was inside it.. i cleaned it with dasty, worked great!
after that i mounted the bearings and mounted the gearbox,

after that i remounted the crankshaft, to get it inside the engine i had cooled it down in the freezer.

i even bought myself an early birthday gift! i found an second hand (but never used nor installed) M-unit for a good price. it even came with the wire harness and a headlight!
Image

today i reassembled both crankcases! it went pretty fast, took me about 1 hour.

so after assembling the main parts i wanted to mount the spark plugs, rear cylinder went good.. but apparently the front cylinder thread was damaged... :db: some bad luck after all..
so i dismantled the head and am going to take it to my work, where i can fix it!

so the last weeks i started on the starter-engine.
repainted it and cleaned the internals.

i also started on the front brake's

today i put the electrical back together. (starter engine and ignition)
thankfully when i cranked the engine, i got a spark from both the cylinders!
i was a bit nervous for this part, because it was a non-runner. and most of the electrical was garbage.
Image
i used this wiring schedule, which i modified myself from the original schedule

me and some friends also went to a custom-bike show in the Netherlands, found a great idea for the exhaust!

Hi thijsdj! I subscribed to this topic, so you've got to keep updating us. :) I've also got an 82 XV920, and I'm wanting to turn it into a cafe racer, too. I love the Honda tank. I'm probably going to stick with the stock tank for mine. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to stick with stock forks, too. Have to keep my build fairly straightforward as I have ZERO experience building bikes. It helps that my Dad's a retired mechanic, and was a Yamaha dealer years ago, so I've got access to expertise, but that's about it.

Looking forward to your updates!
