XV250 Rigid Build

PostAuthor: bene306 » Wed Mar 25, 2020 4:53 am

About a year ago I started building an XV250 from the ground up. I wanted it to reflect my love for the old 60's/70's bobbers and choppers. My intent is to eventually turbo charge this build. I don't want crazy power from it, given the mechanics side of this build will be self taught, i plan to run between 7-10psi on a draw-through setup. It will start on a stock motor with a lowered compression ratio and go from there.

This build will be a labour of love as money and time is quite limited for me.

Ill start with my progress so far and hopefully continue to update the thread as I go (fingers crossed these photos work haha).

The original airbox is removed an a new backbone and down tubes installed.

These are cromoly tubing. The BB was stretched 3 inches and the DTs goosenecked. This is to create bait extra space for the turbo and separate oil system i plan to run.

I made a simple straight through exhaust. The handle bars and struts have some beauty bands on them to give them a nice twist. the struts will eventually be replaced by 10.5" shocks.

I reconfigured the foot controls to a mid ride setup and want to try go jockey shift.

The front end is off a gsx400 or 450 with anti dive. I will be replacing the Anti Dive unit with something to bridge the ports in the lower leg.

There has been a bit more progress since these photos.

Hopefully it won't take me another 12 months to get them up here. :;:

A photo of the hand shifter. 20mm square bar which i heated and twisted. the knob is temporary, looking for something more retro in the mean time

Hand shifter looks hardcore. Good luck on the build.
