XV 250 Carb Rebuild...

PostAuthor: Nwolcott1996 » Fri Mar 17, 2017 1:31 am

Good evening folks! I am proud to say I bought my first bike today, an XV250 Route 66. The guy I bought it from said he rode the bike a lot in the dirt, and also left the bike sitting for a few months, so the bike needs a lot of tlc. It runs, but it quits as soon as you try to give it gas. I'm guessing it needs a carb rebuild/cleaning. Also needs new head gaskets as it seems to be leaking a little bit of oil. I am just comfused on where to buy the most affordable/good qualiry parts. (Keep in mind I am on a semi-strict college budget). Thanks guys!

Your local Yamaha dealer can get parts for you. Or or our vendors on the left sidebar.

The carburetor bowl gasket is the major item you will want for the carb and the idle mixture needle o-ring.
Items are all individual and no general kit available.
The intake manifold may look all cracked but inspect the inside. Aftermarket on ebay can be as little as $18

Try to pinpoint the oil leak before you remove the heads. Could be a valve adjust plug leak, cam sprocket cover o-ring or just loose head bolts.

Please if you will, Post images smaller in size. The large files grind some uses to a halt.
I'll try to fix this one.

Congrats and welcome.

I purchased a K&L carb rebuild kit on ebay for $23, It had bowl gasket, some different o-rings, float valve and valve seat and 2 little springs that didn't look like any of the springs on the carb.

Good luck,
