Centre Stand Spring Installation

PostAuthor: Bloodshot » Wed Apr 15, 2015 8:55 pm

I had the centre stand off so I could swap out the exhaust. When I went to reinstall it I was having a heck of a time trying to stretch it out to hook it back on.
I finally decided to lock one end in a vice and bend it over and place a big washer in between the coils. I did this with maybe a dozen washers. It extended the spring and made the end just barely able to sneak over the catch on the stand with a bit of encouragement from some pliers.
Just a little trick, but I hope it helps someone out.

I know this is an older thread, but I've had good success with the centrestands putting the spring on when they are in the folded "up" position, this is where there's the least tension on the spring throughout the swing of the stand from what I can tell. Hold the stand in the "up" position with a jackstand or wood blocks and pull the spring over the peg with a pair of needle nose pliers or vise-grips, Has always worked for me...

Or, hook the spring on before you locate the hinge ends; do one side, and you'll have plenty of leverage to swing the other side on while stretching the spring. Figured this out after 20 minutes laying on my side with pliars, using up most of my reportoire of cuss words.
