Starter Drive lever screw (SOLVED)

PostAuthor: choppin » Sat Mar 29, 2014 1:25 pm

Any body have a good tip's on removing the drive lever screw on a 2nd gen starter set up. I'm try to remove the allen wrench screw that holds the lever in place and allows the lever to pivot. It's really tight and I don't want to bugger it. Tried heat and cold and PB blaster. Even tried to give the head a good rap. Won't move

I have never had one that was too difficult to remove. The only other thing you might try is a impact driver. If it wasn't raining so hard, I would go out in the shop and check, but I think its a 6mm allen head and only has a short piece of thread. PB blaster and let it set overnight and then try the impact tool. Sometimes tightening before trying to loosen a bolt will break it free.

I thought that screw had a star like head...a regular allen tool might strip it out...As stated PB Blaster will help...just give it time to work...

With that, I had to go out in the rain and look. The pivot bolt is a 5mm allen head with about 12mm of course thread. The bolt size appears to be 10mm in width. The drive lever collar bolt is a Torx (star).

Hi All, First post here.
I just picked up this '85 and it's been sitting a few years. Starter clutch is gone, along with a list of other things to tinker with. One being the mentioned bolt, mine was stripped and stuck tight. I tried slotting it then the impact driver with no luck, it wouldn't come out till the head was gone! Can you point me to a good place to get a replacement, and a gasket for that dog-bone cover?
