"hot wiring" 1982 750 seca

PostAuthor: joesxv750 » Wed Jul 17, 2019 8:19 pm

i am changing from the stock master cylinder to a conventional handlebar-mounted one.

since the stock right side handlebar switch has to be changed for this i am using what i had on hand, one from a 1982 honda goldwing.

the wiring is, of course, different so for now i am just trying to get it cranking through the black 6 pin connector under the gas tank.
i know just enough about wiring to be dangerous, but from looking at the wiring diagram it seems to me that jumping the 2 red/whites together and jumping the blue/white with the black that the bike should run with the key "on". instead i am having a no-crank situation.

note that the bike cranked and ran fine before this. the basic stuff is all in good order, battery charged, connection clean, fuses intact.

i am missing something obvious, or perhaps not-so-obvious.

your input would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. i know that the seca switch uses a handlebar ground and the honda does not, but that shouldn't matter since i am bypassing that entire assembly for now.

thanks
joe

Are we talking about a 750 Seca inline 4 cylinder or a 750 Virago as shown in your profile? If its the Seca, go here to get answers. https://www.xjbikes.com/forums/
