prototype engine cam timing questions.......

PostAuthor: motorlou » Thu Mar 19, 2020 11:10 pm

hey guys. been thinking about this for a bit and wanted to see if anybody had any input. i want to build an engine based on the virago. i will be starting with an xv700 engine i have laying around. for my project i would like to flip the rear cylinder/jug around to be able to run both cam chains on the same side. however, to be able to keep the cam/camshaft ratios the same i would have to use the stock gears. that would mean that the cylinder banks would have to stay at 75 degrees to fit the gears in like the pics below. i would like to bring the cylinder banks closer together but then i would have to have some timeing gears made to allow me to brimg them close like i want. i read in manfreds cam timing gears post that the camshaft turns half turn(180) for every full turn of the crankshaft (360). i am assumimg the the lower cam gear is what makes that possible? any input?
