Traffic light situation

PostAuthor: Arjay » Wed Jun 19, 2019 5:56 am

Ok, sitting at traffic light, waiting for my turn.

Hmmmmm, did I miss the green arrow...??

Ok, I'll keep a close eye this time. I see the light for other direction turning yellow, my turns coming, get ready.

Hmmmm, nope, its a green arrow for the other guy and not me. Now its green light. Gotta wait some more, dang this is a long light.

Ok, surely this next round will be mine. Here comes...

Nope. 3 itterations, I dont think my bike is being detected.

What do you do?

Many times the sensor in the road will not detect a motorcycle. When I can I will get behind a car where sensors are used. Failing that, I will watch traffic and turn left on Green after the 2nd cycle of the lights. Many states that is legal.
"It´s a friggen motorcycle, it´s not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you s**t your pants every now and then. "

Nother thing I do quite often is, if you're lucky enough to have a car behind you, signal the car as close as possible to me. Here..there's suppose to be an ordinance for just a situation to turn against a "red" arrow, if it's traffic safe. Originally impose for bicyclists but extend to motorcycles, cuz of the increase of pay-to-play scooters. Never tested it myself. Hell, most of the time if I see a situation like like approaching, I'll just buzz the the nearest 7-11 parking lot and just come out the other side. Couldn't count how many times I've jump off and ran to the pedestrian walk-way button :bg:

I read somewhere, unfortunately don’t remember where, that you could put a couple of rare earth magnets on the frame under the bike to help trigger the lights.
Have to get creative with a Virago since we don’t have much (any) steel frame up front under engine. Want pretty strong magnets so they don’t fall off and will trigger the circuit.

That said I haven’t tried it as it isn’t usually a problem for me.

Give it a shot, if it works let us know.
