Oil Cooler for tuned Xv 920

PostAuthor: cuno » Sun Apr 29, 2018 2:36 am

Hi Guys,

My project is really taking for years now, but my engine is almost complete.
here is a little summary on the project:

I have an xv920 (chain drive), took an XV1100 crank and cylinders(so had to bore the case).
orderd some JE custom made pistons to go to a compression ratio of 11:1
I'm using the original 920 heads and cams.
There will be two mikuni TM40 flat slide carbs on the bike.
and i will be using a programmable ignition.
(I'll try to post some pic's later on)

Now i'm looking for an oil cooler to compensate for the higher compression.
but i don't have any idea how big i should take this one.
To big is ugly and unnecessary, to small is just not good enough :)

I was thinking about an oil cooler from a ducati multistrada like this one:

what do you guys think about this?

thanks in advance!

I am running a relatively similliar setup and there's no (real) need for an oilcooler.

Hi, thanks for the reply!

I guess the one I posted the link of should be fine just to be sure, it isn't a big oil cooler...

maybe there are other people riding with a similar setup?

It certainly won't do harm, this much is for sure. But if you're running an Ignitech anyway, just make sure, that you're keeping ignition advance within reason especially at low cruising rpm. I run a max advance of 34 degrees.

That being said, look into Kawasaki Intruder and Suzuki TL1000S oilcoolers, I think both or at least the one from the Suzuki has got oil-feed and -return on the same side, which would shorten the hoses significantly and thus reduce the risk of breaking them. (The Multistrada-item is cool though, just a tad pricey...)
