400 to 535 conversion

PostAuthor: NikNacz » Tue Sep 26, 2017 4:58 pm

Hi all, I recently got an imported XV400 and wandered if the engine could be upgraded to the 535 by changing the cylinders and pistons etc... Or if I would need to swap in a 535 replacement engine. I believe the frames are the same on these sizes. It's an early '88 model that was imported into the UK some years ago.
Any advice or help would be really appreciated.

Hi, I've recently brought a 400 (Lifan variety ) and from what i understand, its a straight swap engine wise...not too sure about final drive, but a quick google should supply the answer there..

Hey Nik,

I'd say a motor swap would be an easier job as the bore x stroke of the 400 and 535 differ (not just piston size differences - connecting rod as well).

I mean you could fit the 535 pistons on your 400 engine but wouldnt have the same torque as a std 535.

Cheers,

Ivan
