check the fitment list...they're way off base...these things will not fit 1st gen [/81-/83] viragos as advertised...better go to rick's webpage for a better list
if you're asking for help please include the year and model of the bike in your signature

See, that figures. After I just spend $257 for one about a month ago. This happens whenever I buy something...the next day it will be on sale for half as much and since I know that...I wait until the next day, but the price never drops until after I buy it. This is why I don't play the Lottery. I would wind up OWING the Lottery people money.

Thanks in Advance

I clicked "fitment" an it says [Gen-II only] '86 to '98.

Paul has [3] Gen-II and [1] Gen-I according to his sig (working on '88-1100)

I can't find any implication of Gen-I in his post, but maybe could'a been more specific to prevent confusion. :con:

edit:
my bad. Gen-I '81-'83 750 is hiding in the middle.
but '81-'83 not listed on Rick's site - only starter motor drive p/n61-004 for Gen-II [no photo]

it's listed as NEW, so I suspect DK screwed the pooch.
wonder if they know yet? :naughty:

My 920 doesn't have the same style starter clutch as the later model solenoid operated models.... However, I did replace the starter and a spring in what Yamaha calls the starter clutch.

My 89 1100 has the later model solenoid operated starter system. I had to re solder the ground strap, clean the commutator and brushes on it and now it works fine.... It's currently down waiting for me to reassemble the tank after coating it with caswells expoxy...

So I guess the long and the short of it is, I haven't actually purchased one of these starter clutches.. I just wanted to let folks know that they are available as there were several posts involving starter issues at the time.....
