Front brake master cylinder sight glass

PostAuthor: LuckyEddie » Thu Nov 26, 2020 4:18 pm

Greetings,
I'm not here much lately but thought I would relay this.
I had a crappy sight glass in my front master cylinder, it actually had a hole in it. A good friend turned me on to a source for replacements and I ordered it. It worked out beautifully although it did come on the slow boat from China, literally, and almost nothing for price. I haven't figured out how to add a link but am including the eBay item number to search for: Item ID 324127786453 .

I hope this is helpful!!

What's the trick to replacing these?

I just pressed it out with an appropriate pair of sockets and channel locks, and did also have to pop the outer ring out with a screw driver, then pressed the new one in.

It is a press in fit, very accurate and and rather tight. It also comes with an o-ring to seal it, the old one used an o-ring to make it's seal also. To press it in I used a couple of appropriately sized pieces of 1/8" thick aluminum, one inside and one outside and squeezed or pressed the unit in with a c-clamp.
It's funny how repairing something takes all the mystery out of it. Until I decided to go ahead and do something about it, I too was leary of messing with it. It is nothing more than a mechanical seal.

thank you so much for the clarification. i've a little dripping in master cylinder glass. I purchased from the "comrades from the celestial" a similar repair kit... "long cold winter"(cinderella) is ahead .. it's a time for similar repairs.
