That fairing certainly is different, but well suited to the sidecar outfit I think. Looking forward to watching your progress on this one.

I have to admit, I really, really wanted one of those fairings for the turbo, but they're stupid money usually...

Well, as I have been getting closer to buying this one (been following this list and relist on ebay for at least 6 months) about 3 cropped up on ebay in the last 2 months, all for around £180-200.. so not all that bad.. especially as two of them came with decent paint jobs and the screens but no fitting hardware.. this one came with none of those and will need some work to prep for paint but less than the sidecar.. I might need a TR1 sized headlight for it as the standard from the XV looks a little small..

Got a little time today and fought the tyre onto the xv1100 rim and took some measurements of the headlights, fitted the 17" front wheel have to get the bead set on the rear rim, then fit that and remove the spacer off the end of the KTM shock still feels like it sits quite high I might have to see if I can get the subframe to sit lower or look into lowering the forks..

Will need a 200mm headlight and a 70mm one for the fairing and a 135 insert for the side light on the sidecar. Also the old sidelight I got seems mostly brass..

No progress other than I went on holiday with my other half and we did a sidecar tour, first time in a sidecar for both of us.. :cl:

After my wife said: 'I don't want to travel any other way!' - RESULT!! :bg:

So, the sidecar project now has full support which is great. It is January again though which means tax bill, car test, necessary repairs and tax so no spending for a while..

Cheers,

Then the work on the Monaco and XV subframe would have been carried out with a view to eventually resell at a tidy profit and possibly ending up with a cargo box sidecar hack for winter use.. :;:

Hey two 85, sorry about the delayed response, don't quite know how I missed that.. we went half board, we don't drink, all inclusive always comes at premium because it includes drinks so we tend to avoid that, we were at the Baya Azul in Funchal, Madeira, just been renovated and was great.

Been getting a bit of workshop time on weekend mornings so progress as follows, getting an idea as to where and what I need for fixing frame to tug and been using the random orbital sander on the tub:

Nice! I am currently working on the earles forks of the XS-sidecar and it has been taking forever as all the factory parts are just too sloppy...

Looking forward to that write up Greg as I have been wondering about buying a used pair of leading links vs possibly making some.. at the moment I just want to get the show on the road and I might swap the XV forks for a TR1 set I have to have better choice for front brakes.. leading link will only really matter if it becomes a bit to difficult to handle. I have 80cm wide bars on there to help with that though.. also trying to keep the COG as low as possible, as it stands engine ground clearance is about 10cm chair about 20cm.. I might need skid plates.. :ops:

I used some Dnepr (Cossack/Neval) ones and they had to have a piece taken out in the middle (approx. 10mm) and then (unlike stock) welded together in a straight fashion. Also one of the axle mounts has to be bushed out, as a stock Dnepr runs a 20mm front axle.

Getting a 920 engine.. also looking into 14" car wheel conversion after finding a drum from a Fiat Punto is the same size as the XV drum..

It was a real toss up between the 920 engine and converting to chain with a TR1 engine currently for sale on ebay.co.uk for reasonable money..

So, I've been looking at both the 700 and 920 engines.. the ring gear on the 700 stator is fubar, the teeth have worn down to less than half the original width.

The 920 engine came without stator but I have a spare stator casing, minus magnets or screws that hold them in.. will have to go through my spares pile to see if I have another to put on the 920.. ebay only lists one in the US at the mo' with shipping at least double the price of the parts.. :(

Also I've hit a slight snag or should I say seize..

33743800386_05ac8fee54_z.jpg

33743812466_98c691efe4_z.jpg

Currently soaking in 2-stroke oil and lighter fuel mixture. If I can get them freed, is it rebore time or is there a chance I can get away with a light hone and new rings?

Also trying to source starter upgrade parts as I have spare 2nd gen upgrade side cover already (in fact I have 2 one from a TR1 and one from a later 2nd gen 1000 or 1100)

Could I use the stator parts of a later 1100 with the bigger cover? Not concerned about looks as all will be hidden behind fairing just functionality..

Cheers,
