Electrical problems

Hey guys
I own a 85 xv700 that no matter what i do keeps burning up TCI boxes (3 in 4 months) any body have any ideas? Also i just found a 93 for $150 (forks are wrecked and frame is bent) sgould i just swap everything from the 93 to the 85 frame or will that even work.

Yes, you can swap the 93 engine, wiring harness and electronics to the 700 frame, the engine is a bolt in, but you will need the 93 tci as the later engine uses a single PU coil. If the tci is failing regularly on the 700, I would check to make sure the r/r is not putting out excessive voltage.....

:yup:

A while back, you replaced the battery with a capacitor and was using a jump pack to start the engine. The lack of a battery was part of your problem then, so you put in a battery. I warned you then, that you may ruin your R/R.

Have you checked it for proper output since then ?
