Why doesn't VTF keep me logged in?

PostAuthor: Wesso » Sat Feb 03, 2018 9:11 am

Hey Jake,
You're still doing a grand job I see :):
I'm wondering if you have noticed if anybody else has complained about having to log in again after changing from one part of the forum to another?
I can't remember the exact trigger now but I used to be able to log into VTF and check the box to keep me logged in and it would do exactly that. Then the next time I received an email from the VTF System I could just click on the link and I would be taken directly to that page and post.
Now and for quite some time I have to log in every time I click on a link in an email and every time I change to another section of VTF.
The other thing I can't remember is if I have asked this question before :ops:
I have to admit that it really bugs me and it is also one of the main reasons why I have stopped logging in as often as I used to.
OMG! I use to log in every day without fail and now it is only every few weeks to a month and I'm not happy with that since I am a Mod, I feel that I should be here helping people as best I can.

Cheers, I look forward to your answer and help that you might be able to give.
Cheers
Wayne

You, I and everyone else have the same problem.

Administrator imposed settings is the best answer I can give you.

Mmm... Ok thanks Jake.
Yes I took a bit more notice of the login screen this time and it's "Log me in automatically" not "Keep me logged in" but yeah it makes no difference if Matt has turned that off.
It's a real pain in the behind to have to log in again after posting a message or changing from one forum to another which is what it does to me.
As I said "that's one of the main reasons why I have stopped visiting VTF as often as I used to." and that's not good since I'm a Moderator.
Oh well no sense going on about it 'cos it's not going to change is all I can think. So thanks for considering my question mate :):
Cheers
Wayne

yeah, it is a PITA. kind of like having automatic door-locks on every door in the house where ya have to pull yer key out to open each door just going from room to room.

JMO: my guess it's a money thing [re. server/host whatever ya call it] if we could come up with some sort of plan/scheme/situation where the forum was self-supporting in a "better" situation ... :con:

Yeah that makes a lot of sense Mark.
Just now when I read your post and I clicked on the reply button at the bottom, I had to sign in again to write this to you.
Now I have also encountered another issue... Apparently the Websites security Certificate has either expired or it is not yet valid. At least that's the message that I'm getting when I first try to log in and that's not pleasant either. I'm just wondering how many hoops we are going to have to jump through to get onto our beloved VTF?
Still!! There's not point complaining about it if we can't afford to pay the price and I know that only too well at the moment.
I wish I could afford to donate to Matt to help towards the upkeep of this forum but I can't even afford to pay for my medications at the moment :ops:
Cheers

I think I might have found a resolution to my problem at last.
I have just started using the Opera web browser and so far I have only had to log in once during this session.
It's a very nice feeling not having to log in every time I change from one forum to another or after clicking on the Submit button.
One thing that I will say about Opera (the web browser) is that it is very fast.
I have had my Lenovo PC for just over twelve months and I have only just found out that I was entitled to the Pro version of Opera along with a lot of other apps and goodies to help make my PC work more efficiently.
So thanks to everybody that tried to help.
Cheers

I had tried the following browsers:
Several versions of Internet Explorer
Google Chrome
Microsoft's Edge - The version that comes with Windows 10
and I have even bought a new computer just in case it was a problem with my old PC.
Nothing worked and it also seems that although Opera hasn't completely resolved the problem it makes it a lot easier to deal with the problem because it has a lot of things that are automatic and it logs me in automatically each time VTF kicks me out.

Good question.

Too far above my experience level. --- my guess though is it's not the initial cost as much as the 'up-keep'. :con: :huh?:
