Engaging into first gear instant motor stall

PostAuthor: GoldeXV » Sun Oct 04, 2020 10:03 pm

I've been doing a long slow restoration of a 1995 XV 1100 and have come up against a problem I cant seem to resolve: as I'm trying for a small test drive first in years.

To begin, engaging into first gear and releasing the clutch lever several times, engine running - gave me no engagement.

Readjusting the clutch cable at the trans then at the hand lever now stalls the motor instantly each time I put the foot shifter into first , even after several readjustment still an instant stalling, clutch disengaged(?)

I'm stumped, and don't know how to adjust the foot shifter as I can't find specific info here

Also not sure how to search this great forum.

Check the clutch switch and the side-stand switch?

You were spot on my friend ! I dry lubed all cables , linkages and the kick stand switch and stalling is gone.

Do you by chance have a link to the procedure for adjusting the foot gear shifter linkage adjustment procedure?

For a balky shifter, sometimes all it takes is to roll back the rubber boots on the linkage pivots, flush them out well with a solvent cleaner or spray penetrating/lubricating oil. Otherwise, the only adjustment I've had to do is on the linkage rod - make sure the shift lever and the lever on the foot shifter are parallel to each other - or in the same plane so to speak. If they're not, the linkage will bind.
