New to me 97 Virago 1100

PostAuthor: JamesRS2007 » Wed Oct 25, 2017 11:14 pm

Hello all,

Well I am back because I purchased another Virago. :bg: Every time I've had a Virago, I've sold it after a while and almost immediately regretted it. Usually the reason for selling it was because of the vibration I would feel at freeway speeds out here in the Desert. (which are usually around 80+ :cl: ) However after trying a Magna for a while, and then moving up to a Yamaha Royal Star touring bike, I realized that I am just a Virago guy and went out and found another one to play with. I don't plan on doing as much freeway riding in the near future, so I should be okay this time. Here is a pic of my new toy :r:

That’s a nice looking bike man! Love those pipes. Any big plans with it or are you keeping her stock? I too had a Magna once in 2012. 1982 750. Unfortunately it was very neglected before me and just wasn’t worth the time and money. That’s when I got the virago and I’ll never go back.
Congrats on the new bike!

Thanks Bruce,

Ya, my Magna was a fun bike, but it just doesn't move me like the Virago's do. Something about their style and sound that I just connect with. As for my Virago, I plan on keeping it pretty stock. I think the bikes are just pieces of art in their natural form, so I will probably just make subtle little changes. I have a luggage rack, and am thinking about a spitfire windshield and some saddle bags. That is about all i have thought about so far.

I'm interested to see what else you add to it. I'm hoping we can get a video or how it runs and the sound of the exhaust.

Hi JMobile,

Well, sorry to disappoint ya but i pulled the Cobra pipes off and put them up on Ebay. They were kinda loud to me, and didn't have that nice smooth sound like the Vance and Hines pipes do. They had a rasp sound to them that I didn't like so I put the stock exhaust back on since I got them with the bike.

:GJ: That’s a nice looking bike. I see it’s got Cobra slip-on exhaust pipes. I’ve got them on both my 700 and 1100 Viragos. I love the the testosterone elevating deep tone they emit.

Here is my 1994 1100 that I bought in July of 2015. It had 1,144 miles on the odometer it when I bought it and now has 5,400 miles on it. I’m putting saddle bags on it and hopfully a leather tank pad too.

Thats a nice looking virago. I installed a set of River road saddlebags on my virago as well, you may want to take a look at them as I think they are just the right size for our bikes.

Thank you for the compliment. I ordered a set of SD 4065 slanted, studded and braided saddle bags from Jafrum, a site I only recently discovered. Their prices were as good as and even better than I could purchase them on ebay or amazon for. According to the reviews I read these bags fit perfectly on Viragos. I also ordered a set of saddle bag support bar mounting brackets via ebay. I’m in no hurry to get them because it’s winter and my bike is in winter storage. I’m certainly looking forward to spring though.

I’m still debating whether or not to get a wind shield because for me there are pros and cons to getting one. My brother has an 1100 and he has a wind shield that even covers his grips. He said that it is a royal pain in windy weather.

You know, I've had several bikes and I always end up putting a small windshield on them because for me it beats the chest air blast i get if I don't have one on. Just seems to make riding more relaxing. Can't say that I notice much of an issue with cross winds etc, but I am just a fair weather rider so on the windy days, my baby just sits in the garage. :bg:

I’ve already decided that if I do put a winshield on my bike it will be one small enough to push the air up over my head, yet allow me good visibility and chest protection from bugs and flying road debris. I’m so used to riding without one that I just accept that wind blast is to be expected. I rarely ride without my riding jacket on and I never ride without long pants and boots on. I just shake my head whenever I see riders wearing shorts and flip-flops on. My brother has a larger, clear bat wing style windshield that gets so covered with bugs that he has to stop and clean it off due to loss of visibility. I also don’t ride at night if I don’t have to.

Hey JMobile, they actually didn't sell. I still have them in my garage. You interested in them? :):
