16” XV500 rim on a XV1000

PostAuthor: mboyer2 » Sat Apr 03, 2021 11:08 am

I have tried using the search at the top as well as the site:http://viragotechforum.com on bing and am not getting the results I want. I have an 85 XV1000 with the IMO ugly gold rims. I kind of like the twisted style of the 83 XV500 but see that they are a 16” rim version the 15” on the 1000. I am not too worried about the height but I am worried that they will not fit side to side and possibly offset the rear wheel. Can anyone provide me with advice on swapping these out or if I should just paint the gold on the wheels I currently have.

Thanks,
Mike

Paint them, don’t think anyone put a 500 on a 2nd Gen before.

I believe they have a different coupling to your bike. The wheel off the first generation 750/920/1000 Viragos will fit the splines of your final drive, but first generation wheels will sit 20mm to the left compared to your generation two rear wheel.

I took a look at your pictures and they look really nice, how long ago did you do them?

Then I’ll take that approach. One more question, did you do any special prep or primer?
