84 XV1000: Headlight out, not the fuse

PostAuthor: Bane » Sun Jul 26, 2020 6:26 am

Interesting oddity

Everything was working fine on the bike.

going on a big cruise this morning.

so last night i changed the filter, oil and spark plugs
took a couple of tries to fire up... ie starter grinded once or twice
turned over and wow, bike runs amazing.

did a quick boot around the neighbourhood and then i noticed i had no lights?

headlight and gauge cluster are not lit.
everything else functions as it always has.

fuse for headlight is good (changed anyway)
power is at the fuse socket

fuse clips are tight

no power at headlight socket.
nothing appears melted, broken or visibly shorted in the headlight bucket
confirmed bulb was good hooking up to a spare battery directly

I'll take the other bike for the cruise, but i'm curious if anyone has experienced something like this before?

I tried searching, but i'm not sure if the search engine is broken, no terms come back with any results
Thanks,

James

You might check the switch, I had a 93 750 that I would have to wiggle the run switch to get the headlight to work.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
