XV1000 engine running, kickstand up, clutch in, shift stalls

PostAuthor: Mizterboston » Tue Aug 21, 2018 8:06 am

I have a 85 XV1000 Virago. The bike was running fine. But, occasionally, and more frequently when I start her up, in neutral, clutch in (Note clutch switch is dangling), kickstand up, and I go to shift into 1st, it stalls.

Recent work done: Carbs removed and cleaned, tank loosened and raised up to get to carbs, passenger side plastic removed for new battery, drivers side plastic removed to remove seat. All mentioned items returned to their normal positions.

If the clutch switch is just dangling and not bypassed, that may be the cause... Does the bike lurch forward when you put it in gear? If so, you need to adjust your clutch.

I had a similar issue, and it was my cable down by my kick stand was sticking. It would auto kill because it thought the kickstand was still down.
A little lube and seems to still work great.

Gotta love it when nobody says anything if an issue was resolved or not. Can be helpful to others.
