Thanks for sharing the info on both Kasson and Work's bikes! The article was hard to read for old eyes but interesting to see how close to stock it was internally.

Love the use of a modified YZ250 rear swingarm. (Not in text, but a thing of personal knowledge...)

IIRC, that swingarm is from a TZ700 or TZ750, and has been modified. I found the guy who built the swingarm and he had one of the adjustment tracks left. We were emailing and one day he didn't reply. Oh well.

Could well be, I modified a 250 swingarm for one of the German racing guys, but he never used it in the end. Nowadays, I'd just fabricate one from scratch and model it after the original from Schwantz'es bike.

That's my plan too. Someday. A Ducati 900SS swingarm could possibly be adapted too.

I have a YZ490 swingarm in the garage too. It was all of $25.00.

Pete,
I just sold my two XV-R’s to Jesse Davis whose dad built “Lurch”, the Schwantz 920R race bike from Kasson’s shop. Jesse is building a couple of racers for that classic super bike series that’s real big on the west coast just now. Jesse works with Roland Sands Designs. He’d appreciate hearing from you.

Ed.
If it's not from Texas, does it really matter?

KLX650R - made into one fine thumper street bike and sold to someone with a good right knee!
2 - MZ660 Skorpions - both now in the hands of a genius at 1950's race-car resto's
and the faithful KLR650 - everyone ought to have scrambler to toot around town

Hi Ed,

It's great to hear from you. I hope all is well. I'll drop Jesse a line. I bet he's a wealth of information.
