XV920R Speedometer

PostAuthor: rider164 » Sun Apr 16, 2017 8:50 am

Does any body know of a 130 to 140 mph speedometer which will fit a 1981 XV920R? I havel just completed a engine build using 2005 XV1100S crank, rods, cylinders and cyl heads with J&E 10.6 pistons, Keihin FCR 41mm carbs and the Webb ZZZ cams. This engine pulls strong past 9,000 rpm and exceeds the 85 mph speedometer in 3rd gear. I need a 130 to 140 mph speedometer compatible with the 81 920R speedometer drive. Any ideas?
1981 XV920RH: 1100 crank, rods, cylinders & heads. JE 10.6/1 pistons, web cam, race springs, shortened and tapered valve guides. Ported cylinder heads. Keihin 41MM FCR carbs, MAC 2 into 1 header, Supertrap muffler with straight through 2.5" baffle. Manley valves, Falicon super crank, rods polished, shotpeened and magnifluxed. Crank balanced. Engine was previously built with Venolia 11.5/1 pistons and Megacycle X2 cams. Dyno'd 83 hp back when you could still get real good premium pump gas.

Most Japanese speedometers are geared the same so you should be able to find one relatively easy.
I have used an early Yamaha speedo on my XR600 a friend used a XL125 on his ATK, no problem.
I converted the gauges from a second Gen to fit on my 920 for the same reason.

I've got a Euro one on mine. Just need to do the metric thing in my head.

I goes to either 220 or 240 kph. I'm to lazy to walk to the garage to check. ;)

4/19/17 Ran on the dyno today. 89 horsepower and 66 ft lb torque. Peak power at 7800 rpm, power does not drop much until 8700 rpm. Still have to finish dialing it in.
